Diablo 2 Assassin Builds

PvM

Blender Assassin

Blender Assassins are just that...blenders.  Blender Assassins (aka Blenders) use a Blade Shield that whirls around them to constantly hit targets near them.  Every hit not only freezes the target, but also causes a crushing blow.

Low level creatures stand little chance against these blenders and will often simply shatter...regardless of their number hit points. A Shatter death is pretty much an instant kill. Blenders are the most effective at achieving this shatter effect - thus enabling them to do incredible amounts of damage very quickly.

In addition to this, their freeze ability will keep those creatures that are near you from being able to hit you. Even if the creatures don't shatter immediately, a constant beating from the Blade Shield (which will always hit targets within range with a 100% Crushing Blow) will be sure deplete their HP quickly.

Blenders still have to find a way to take away those last few life points of creatures being attacked. This can be done through a weapon switch or by the use of a high level Phoenix Strike combined with Tiger Strike and Dragon Tail.

C/C Hybrid / Dtailer

"The assassin to me is a char with the most variety. They can handle every part of the game , both PvM and PvP. But this guide will be made with duel claw in mind. And also PvM only. This guide will be made on my own experience , so you don't have to follow it to the point."

Lightning Trapsin

"Thought I’d throw together a general guide to building a lightning Trapsin pointed towards solo play. First question might be, Why a Trapsin? Trapsins in 1.10 have a very nice combination of attacks in the lightning skills, a really nice backup fire skill, access to a corpse explosion skill, and a nice minion for tanking and handling some immunities that give the Trapsin trouble. She can be played untwinked without much trouble and is not in need of a whole lot of high-end gear to be at her most effective setup. A great first character for getting a taste for this game and finding a few items to get other characters started. Given that last statement, this guide will focus on playing an untwinked assassin through the game. Gear suggestions will be general. If you’re looking for a guide that states in absolute terms "use this claw with that helm and this armor", look elsewhere."

The Tiger Strike/Dragon Tail Martial Artist

"Matriarching my first character inspired me to write this guide, an investigation into a build similar to the one that I followed. This might not be the easiest build to take through hell in 1.10, but it was certainly incredibly fun to play. The glory of taking down an entire pack with a well-placed Dragon Tail is amazing and suggested for anyone who needs to relieve some pent-up aggression, and both the attack and running speed of this build are legendary. Additionally, a Tiger Strike/Dragon Tail assassin can take on any part of any difficulty, due to the support availability of any elemental attack (from Phoenix Strike, an elemental martial arts skill, Death Sentry/Lightning Sentry, or a weapon-switch elemental claw) and huge physical and fire damage."

Dragon Talon/Trapper

"My Dragon Talon/Trapper is my 3rd assassin character and also the character I've enjoyed most of all, hence this guide. I chose to do this build because it was quite unusual at the time. Dragon Talon had never really been a widely used skill and with the arrival of 1.10 it suddenly became a very interesting asset of the Assassin. The very rapid attack with very few skill points invested really made the skill attractive to me. I chose Traps as secondary skills for two reasons: safety and efficiency. When I started playing I noticed that it wasn’t only efficient but also extremely fun to play! However, as with all characters, there are situations which are very hard to handle."

Ghost (Trapper)

"Tired of dying all day to hard hitting monsters or annoying casters that hit you from two screens away? Sick of not being able to play a build because you can't 'afford' the gear for one? Do you have a life and can't afford to kill Mephisto for 12 hours a day for items? Tired of guides going on the assumption you will have 2 BOTD weapons and a few extra Enigma armors just lying around? If so...you have come to the right place! Look no further for this is THE place to build an Assassin that will stay ALIVE and will let you have tons of fun while doing it! Simply put, the Ghost will allow you to solo 4/5 of the game, be a great asset to a party, NOT DIE, and all of this can be done for some decently cheap gear. Your goals for your Assassin is to reach about 50% block, get max resists in hell, get as much life as possible, and try to reach 50% DR This guide is geared towards those who are not already very familiar with the assassin (but not necessarily new to the game), but I think would be of help to everyone."

The Furysin (Blade Fury)

"I am an Assassin enthusiast who, after a lot of remakes, has settled on creating the assassins which differ (a little) from the main stream. I play on the Europe Realm. I started out playing the Amazon but as soon as the Expansion came out I jumped to the Assassin and stuck with it ever since. The Sin is just so versatile that her arsenal can’t be beat by any other class (at least in my book). Now with patch 1.1 and the ending of the first Ladder season I’ve sat down and once more worked on this build. While knowing there are 23 unknown rune words waiting to be discovered, and that this build might very well be depending on these rune words, I’ve revamped some of the build. Not much though.. so for those whom already read this.. you may not see the changes but they are there. No there hasn’t been any ‘gear’ changes yet… I’m sorry but due to unreasonable prices in trading lately I've been unable to afford the ‘richer’ testing. This will have to wait. So I’m posting my findings from version 1.1-1.2."

The Ninja

"I am a lurker. I hide in the darkness, biding my time, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. I watch what happens around me with quiet calculation. When the time is right, I move with the swift and deadly accuracy of a viper. Thus, after reading all the standard build guides over and over again, I decided to try something…a little different."

The 'Shadow Walker' (Pure Claw/Venom)

"Some of you know me, some of you don't. So I'll quickly introduce myself. I'm a fan of soloing HC assassins in players8 mode, and particularly close combat, C/C assassins. I've read some posts asking about C/C assassins using Venom, but have never seen a guide about that build which was the first I tested in 1.10. My 1.09 assassin was using CM/DC/CoT/WoI and was of course not efficient in 1.10"

The Shredsin (WhirlWind)

"Hi, my name is Tragics. I play on USWEST Ladder, and my current assassin is level 90 and climbing. I have experimented with more than five assassins and at last concocted a most successful recipe which I am quite pleased with, which is called the Whirlwind Shredsin. While the PvP WWsin seems to be more popular and talked about I strongly prefer to focus more of my time on the PvM WWsin. Earlier, I was a bit disappointed with the WW "best" builds when applied to PvM because I felt the assassin simply wasn't killing ferociously enough with Open Wounds and Venom even after some modifications."

Tiger Strike / Death Sentry Assassin

"Welcome to another fishy guide. :) This time it's for a martial arts / traps assassin hybrid. The martial arts half of the build focuses on huge physical damage. The combination of tiger strike and a two-handed weapon is downright impressive. The traps half adds corpse exploding lightning damage to the mix. CE helps a lot when confronted with large mobs while the lightning damage is good when faced with PIs or enemies you don't want to meet head-on. The lack of defence and blocking is more than compensated for by the assassin's incredible crowd control skills which makes this build a viable option for HC play, too. I'll try to note the differences between SC and HC when possible, as always with my guides, the main focus is on HC and playing more or less untwinked."

The C/C Natalya's Phoenix Striker

"I think that this build has provided me with my first “really” successful D2x character. Although you could try to play this build a bit more defensively and take it into hardcore, it is most effective when played very aggressively and fits into softcore PvM the best. In all honesty, this build may not be the heaviest hitter or the fastest killer in the game, but I can confidently assure you that played properly, this Assassin build can take you through Hell and back, and provide you with many more hours of quality entertainment than a one-hit-wonder build."

The Immobilizer (Blades of Ice/Dragon Tail)

"The Immobilizer (or FI'CE) assassin will have the power to render her enemies unable to hit back while at the same time killing them leaving no corpses that can be used against her. The Immobilizing effect will come in 3 stages to safely and effectively destroy all who stand in her way and at the same time making her neigh untouchable.
The build will rely on as much + skill items as possible to deal high cold + fire damage simultaneously incurring a freezing/knockback effect with a freeze duration possible of over 18 secs (over 4 secs in Hell) and is very well suited for playing hardcore."

The Cold Maiden (Blades of Ice/Blade Tree)

"I have played Diablo II since it came out and have from the start of the expansion really loved the Assassins. I’ve though over the years now been annoyed at the same build being used by everyone, that I’ve tried to create my own and odd/strange builds which still work. They are not cookie cutter builds, I don’t make those. They are though different ways of using gear and skills, a new and fresh approach to doing the exact same thing."

Weapon/Shield and Dual Claw Kicker

"Hello, I'm eclipse from the European realm. Since the first day of LOD I have fancied assassins, one of the reasons being that they are very versatile and can cope with almost any situation. I wrote a guide for a dual claw assassin in 1.09 but since the new patch has hit the realms a lot of changes have happened, both good and bad."

C/C WW Shadow Assassin (Rev. 1)

"A dual claw PvP Assassin who uses the Whirlwind skill and focuses on the Shadow Disciplines' skills tree."

Full guide via diabloii.net

Mageslayer (C/C Anti-Caster Kicker)

"This guide describes a specialized application of the c/c pvp kicksin to produce a very effective caster killer. As evident in the title (Mageslayer), this build started as a sorceress killing specialist, but I soon discovered that it was effective for other casters. In fact, I will argue here that the c/c kicksin is one of the few melee classes who can consistently defeat casters (including this dreaded bone necromancer)."

The Fire Trapper

"Hi, I'm Shadow and I know I haven't been on the forums for long but I have played a fire trapper for a little over 2 years now, so I consider myself pretty knowledgeable of this unique and powerful trapper build. For starters this is for PvP ONLY. I am writing this guide based on my experience with this build and general knowledge of the class. This guide is also based on public dueling games where anything goes so keep these things in mind as you read. Now, what is a fire trapper you might ask? A fire trapper is an assassin that uses the Wake of Fire skill in combination with Mind Blast to severely stun-lock an opponent until death. Fire trappers can handle a variety of situations and still come out on top, so feel free to duel any class you wish with confidence."

The Ama-Sin (Bow Assassin)

"This is not a really cheap build. So it is not recommended for new players. Also Widow Maker is a Ladder only item and might be hard to come by. I would recommend trying to get this item first before you start to buy the rest. This build seems to work very well vs. casters."

The Fast-cast WW/Kick/Stun Assassin

"This guide focuses on strategy, not items and stats (though I will discuss both). As such it is useful for the build in the title (WW/Kick/Stun), “ghost” style pure WW assassins, “ghost” style pure kickers, BvC barbs (since there are a lot of practical whirlwind pointers), trappers, and anyone else interested in good dueling techniques. It is largely unchanged after the latest patch releases. I have altered some portions of the equipment section to reflect the hellfire charm. These changes are really minimal. It just means a bit more pre-planning, yet another “perfect stat” expensive charm that everyone has to try and get, and added flexibility in stats and the like. Hopefully this guide will have a long and useful life."
