Gears of War 2 Weapons
Primary Weapons:
Lancer Assault Rifle
The trademark weapon of the COG military, the Lancer is a fully automatic assault rifle that’s perfect for short- to mid-range combat. Its chainsaw bayonet is a powerful melee weapon that takes out most enemies in a single blow. It can also be used to cut a path through overgrown areas.
Hammerburst Assault Rifle
The Locust signature weapon. It may lack a chainsaw, but the semiautomatic Hammerburst is more powerful and accurate. It can also zoom in more.
Gnasher
A powerful shotgun that’s ideal for close-range combat. Its 8-round capacity may seem limiting, but the force per shot more than makes up for its modest clip size. In tight areas, the Gnasher delivers a devastating one-shot kill to almost any enemy within range.
Long Shot Sniper Rifle
The Longshot is a high-powered, bolt-action sniper rifle with a powerful zoom sight. It can incapacitate an enemy with a single shot, and the zoom attachment provides pinpoint accuracy at long distances—perfect for headshots. But with one-shot rounds, you better make the first shot count...
Secondary Weapons:
Scorcher
The Scorcher Flamethrower is a short- to mid-range weapon that emits a concentrated stream of fire that chars your enemies. The Scorcher also produces a bright flash that temporarily blinds opponents and leaves them vulnerable to a quick flame burst. A perfect active reload shoots flames at even greater distances.
Torque Bow
The Torque Bow fires high-powered explosive-tipped arrows that discharge shortly after contact. Because of the bow’s unique targeting reticule, which maps the arrow’s trajectory, the Torque Bow is one of the most accurate weapons, especially at long distances. This comes with a tradeoff, however, because you must hold the trigger for a short duration before the arrow sticks into surfaces (or foes.) The Torque Bow’s sharp blades also make it an effective melee weapon.
Mortar
The Mortar is a powerful artillery bomb that rains down on multiple enemies. The Mortar’s hefty size reduces your speed and maneuverability. It’s also highly inaccurate when fired blindly, and you can’t access its targeting system until it’s planted firmly on the ground. However, once it’s equipped, the Mortar fires a bomb that breaks apart midair in a hail of tiny, deadly explosives.
Mulcher
The Mulcher is similar to its sister weapon, the Locust Troika. Blind firing is wildly inaccurate. For maximum effect, mount the turret to a sturdy surface so you can aim with both hands. The Mulcher overheats after extended use, so fire in bursts to avoid jamming, and active reload to increase cooling.
Boomshot
A Locust short- to mid-range grenade launcher that can easily take down a target in a single shot. The projectile produces several smaller explosions after the initial blast. But it suffers a slow reload time and should never be used at close range—the force of the explosion may kill you along with the target. Comes loaded with three rounds which do little damage without making direct contact, but a perfect reload fires two rockets at once for a massive explosion.
Troika Turret
The Troika is a high-powered, turret-mounted Locust machine gun that fires continuous rounds across the battlefield. Specially trained Locust gunners man the Troika and are equipped with unique helmets that accurately target the weapon and also deflect headshots. If you’re in a Troika’s line of fire, take cover immediately. A few direct hits can tear the human body limb from limb. But if you eliminate the Locust gunner, you can turn this powerful weapon against the enemy.
Pistols:
Snub Pistol
The Snub Pistol is a standard-issue, semiautomatic sidearm with a 12-round clip and a long-distance zoom sight for improved accuracy. It’s not the most powerful pistol, but its precision and ease of use make the Snub a valuable backup.
Boltok Pistol
The Boltok is a high-caliber magnum sidearm that fires devastating single blasts. The pistol’s powerful rounds are offset by its small clip and slow reload, but a perfect active reload lets you rearm and fire faster. The Boltok is lightweight and easy to hold with one hand, which makes it, the Snub, and the Gorgon pistols the only weapons you can wield when using an enemy as a shield.
Gorgon Pistol
A semiautomatic pistol favored by the Locust Kantus. It’s one of the highest-caliber weapons, with a dual clip that squeezes off two rounds simultaneously and makes it extremely lethal, especially at close range. The Gorgon’s power, however, is offset by its small clip and long reload because both barrels must be restocked.
Hammer of Dawn
An Imulsion-powered satellite that rains down a devastating particle energy stream. It can wipe out anything from small Locust squads to entire city blocks. However, to align the satellite with its intended target, you must use the handheld laser designator to establish a line-of-sight relationship with the target, often under heavy enemy fire. The hammer carries only three charges; charging it a fourth time will result in self-detonation.
Grenades:
Frag Grenade
This explosive attached to a chain can be used both as a projectile and as a melee weapon. Its launch system works similar to a classic bolo, in which you twirl the weapon to build momentum before releasing it. Given the device’s small blast radius and inability to breach an enemy’s cover point, the Frag Grenade demands pinpoint accuracy. Grenades can also be tagged to enemies at close range for an explosive, messy kill. There have been reports of grenades being tagged to walls as improvised trip mines.
Ink Grenade
The Ink Grenade is actually a baby Nemacyst inker attached to a bolo grenade, commonly used by the Locust Kantus. After it explodes, it emits a cloud of noxious gas that blinds and poisons any target within range.
