Bowser
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
Known for being Mario's arch nemesis, the "King of Koopas" is one of Brawl's largest and most fearsome characters. Bowser seems to have a knack for capturing maidens in distress and then moving them from castle to castle while a plumber destroys his army of retarded mushrooms and turtles. In addition to all of that he loves fires, appearing evil, and riding around on some upside down helicopter with a smiley face. Bowser made his first appearance in Super Mario.
Class: Heavy
Final Smash: Giga Bowser
Pros:
- Powerful Attacks
- Fast in the Air
- Hard to KO
Cons:
- Extremly Slow
- Terrible Range
- Big Target
Captain Falcon
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
Captain Falcon is an accomplished F-Zero pilot and bounty hunter. Think of him like Han Solo, only with a bandit mask, purple spandexs, and a rad helmet. Falcon is known for being one of the fastest characters in the Super Smash series. With the release of Brawl, however, it seems that Falcon is now only second in speed when compared to <>. Falcon made his first appearance in F-Zero.
Class: Medium Weight
Pros:
- Extremly Fast
- Powerful Attacks
- Great Aerial Attacks
Cons:
- Slow Attacks
- No Projectiles
- Predictable Recovery
Diddy Kong
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
Diddy Kong is the sidekick of Donkey Kong. Unlike his huge buddy, Diddy Kong is small, fast, and wears more articles of clothing. He weilds a gun that shoots peanuts and sports a lovely jet pack. Diddy made his first appearance in Donkey Kong Country.
Class: Light Weight
Pros:
- Fast
- Small Target
- Great Recovery
Cons:
- Easy to KO
- Poor Range
- Weak Attacks
Donkey Kong
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
Donkey Kong is one Nintendo's most memorable characters. Donkey Kong has gone from enemy of Mario to hip, tie-wearing, jungle swinging ape. Although his latest games haven't been as successful as Mario's, Donkey Kong is still very well known in the Nintendo world. His first appearance was in Donkey Kong.
Class: Heavy Weight
Pros:
- Strong Attacks
- Good Air Attacks
- Decent Range
Cons:
- Slow Attacks
- Bad Recovery
- Terrible Fashion
Falco
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
Falco is Star Fox's right hand man. Although the two never seem tof ully get along, Falco is still always there to watch Fox's back. Falco is a pilot and like Captain Falcon that makes him slightly cooler. His moves are somewhat similar to Foxes, yet a few tweaks make him slightly different. His first appearance was in Star Fox.
Class: Medium Weight
Pros:
- High Jump
- Decent Combos
- Good projectile
Cons:
- Bad Finishing Moves
- Below Average Recovery
- Below Average Running Speed
Ganondorf
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
More like Ganondork. Just kidding. Ganondorf (or as his friends call him "Ganon") is a powerful wizard / evil being that comes back every couple of years to wreck havoc and play sword fighting games with Link. Like Bowser, he too has an obsession with capturing princesses and laughing at heroes. Despite all of this Ganon is actually pretty cool. In Brawl he's known for his mixture of powerful moves and magical attacks. His first appearance was in (you guess'd it...) Legend of Zelda.
Class: Heavy Weight
Pros:
- Powerful Attacks
- Hard to Counter
- Awesome Cape
Cons:
- Big Target
- Extremly Slow
- Terrible Recovery
Ice Climbers
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
Despite their cheery smiles and colorful coats the Ice Climbers are two things - strong and annoying. Unlike other characters in Smash, the Ice Climbers are actually two characters in one. This leads to a great deal of confusion for some players, but many skilled players can use this to their advantage. Despite the fact that there's two characters, players really only control one while the other climber simply mimics the other's actions. Their first appearance was Ice Climber.
Class: Medium Weight
Pros:
- Confusing
- Hard to KO
- Great Recovery
Cons:
- Confusing
- Lame Attacks
- You're screwed if they get seperated
Ike
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
Ike is one of the most powerful characters in Brawl. Although he's got a dorky haircut, his giant sword can do amazing amounts of damage quickly. His attacks are very powerful, but there's a lengthy recovery time after most of them, meaning that you'll be left wide open, if you didn't clear the immediate area of opponents after an attack. However, Ike's knock back can be a counter for such a weakness. His knock back of opponents can increase the time you have to recover from your attacks. He first appeared in Fire Emblem.
Class: Heavy Weight
Pros:
- Super Strong Attacks
- Hard to KO
- Powerful Counter
Cons:
- Rather Slow
- Bad Recovery
- Your final smash will probably kill you
Jiggly Puff
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
Although she looks a lot like Kirby, Jiggly Puff is actually very different. Jiggly Puff is a very defensive character. Her attacks are quite powerful (for a light weight), but her range is rather poor. Jiggly Puff first appeared in Pokemon.
Class: Light Weight
Pros:
- Decent Attacks
- Hard to hit
- Decent Recovery
Cons:
- Very Light Weight
- No projectiles
- Can't reflect projectiles
King Dedede
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
A lot of people think that Dedede is pretty annoying...Kirby would agree. A lot of people also think Dedede is a lame character in Brawl...that kind of isn't true. Although Dedede's moves do look lame, Dedede is quite the unique fighter. Although a heavyweight, Dedede has the ability to fly like Kirby. This means that his recovery is pretty good. Also a good handful of his moves can cause a lot of damage. Dedede is known for bieng that sort of misunderstood bad guy. He does wrong things, but tries to be good in the end. Like Bowser, he has minons at his disposle. Unlike Bowser, however, his minons are so loyal that he can take them out and throw them at folks. Dedede first appeared in King Dedede's Game - So Much Better Than Kirby's. Just kidding his first game was Kirby.
Class: Heavy Weight
Pros:
- Strong Attacks
- Hard to KO
- Decent Speed
Cons:
- Slow Attacks
- Large Target
- Easy to combo him
Kirby
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
Chances are that if you're playing Brawl with anyone under six, you're most likely going to be playing against Kirby. Kirby is known for being one of the easiest characters to use in Brawl. That being said, he can also prove to be one of the strongest characters. Newbies to Brawl can still put up one heck of a fight with Kirby. What makes him so great you wonder? Well for one thing his recovery is ridiculously good. Although a light weight, Kirby's ability to float make him almost impossible to ring out on the first try. In addition to this, Kirby can suck up other people and do one of two things: 1) absorb their power or 2) run off the edge with them and kill them. Kirby's first game was Kirby.
Class: Light Weight
Pros:
- Can suck people up
- Great Aerial Attacks
- Hard to hit
Cons:
- Really Light
- Ground attacks can be weak and slow
- Slow Dash
Link
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
Link is the hero of time and also the failure of speech classes. Although he doesn't talk much aside random shouts and 'ughs', Link is one awesome sword weidling, ocarina playing adventurer. Link is basically your medieval version of Bond. Rather than using his fists, Link uses bombs, boomerangs, swords, shields, and grappling hooks to attack his enemies. That beign said he can be a lot of fun to play with and has a great variety of moves. Link first appeared in the Legend of Zelda.
Class: Medium Weight
Pros:
- Attacks have good range
- Hookshot can be used for extra recovery
- Shield can reflect projectiles
Cons:
- Slow Attacks
- Boomerang does no damage on return
- Hookshot can leave you vulnerable if you miss
Lucario
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
Lucario is form the Pokemon universe and probably some other universe within that universe. Lucario is Brawl's version of Mewto. Unlike Link, Lucario speaks somewhat and doesn't realyl rely on gadgets. Isntead, Lucario uses magic to achieve what he wants. Ina ddition to this Lucario has an itneresting ability ni that his attacks grow strogner as his health approachs a dagame percetnage of 200%. Lucario first appeared in Pokemon - Diamond / Pearl.
Class: Medium Weight
Pros:
- Good Short and Long Range Attacks
- Strong Projectiles
- Attacks get stronger as he gets weaker
Cons:
- Slow Movement
- Slow Smashes
- Difficult to Master
Lucas
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
Lucas fights using psyshic powers with a fighting style that are very similar to Ness. He's a light-weight character with several projectile attacks, including PK Thunder, PK Freeze, and PK Fire. Lucas first appeared in Mother 3.
Class: Medium Weight
Pros:
- Good Projectiles
- Awesome grabs
- Hard to hit
Cons:
- Easy to KO
- Smashes are slow
- Grab can leave you vulnerable
Luigi
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
Luigi is the Mario wannabe. He's also Mario's brother, though he's not as cool as Mario himself. Luigi's attacks are no where near as powerful as his brothers, but his jumps are insanely good. That being said, chances are that if you're playing Luigi then you'll be jumpnig around on the stage a lot. Luigi is also known for being clumsy. That beign said he tends to randomly slide while running. His first game was Mario Brothers.
Class: Medium Weight
Pros:
- Good Smashes
- Awesome projectiles
- Rather high jump
Cons:
- Slides when running
- Attacks aren't as cool as Mario
- His final smash is a big WTF moment
Mario
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
Mario...do we really need to say more? Apparently we do. Mario loves crushing innocent creatures in pursuit of a princess that just consistently turns him down. She keeps telling him it's the beard and mushrooms, but Mario just doesn't get it. Naw, I'm kidding. Chances are if you're playing Smash then you know who Mario is, and if you don't then I suggest you get an NES and find out. As far as Brawl goes, Mario is the all around average character. His strengths and weaknesses balance each other out. Mario's first appearance was, beleive it or not, Donkey Kong.
Class: Medium Weight
Pros:
- Average Attacks
- Average Defense
- Can reflect projectiles
Cons:
- Fireball does little damage
- Bad attacks and grabs
- FLUDD does no damage
Marth
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
Like Ike, Marth comes from the world of Fire Emblem and loves using his sword. He also is a fan of silly haircuts, only his just makes Ike's hair look way cooler. Marth's speed has been increased since his last appearance in Melee, but the length of his sword has been nerfed. Marth deals a good amount of damage and can create crazy combos. He also has a Shield Breaker move that does a good deal of damage.
Class: Medium Weight
Pros:
- Fast Attacks
- Crazy Combos
- Best Counter
Cons:
- No projectile attacks
- Can't defelct projectiles
- Though medium weight, acts like a light weight
Meta Knight
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
Ah' Meta Knight - the mysterious swordsman from Kirby. Meta Knight is basically Batman meets Zorro....he's got bat wings and he loves using his sword. Unlike Kirby, Meta Knight doesn't like eating folks...nor does he like showing his face. That's fine with us though, because his cool mask and yellow eyes make him look that much cooler. Meta Knight has no projectiles. Instead of fighting from afar, Meta Knight likes to get up close and personal with his opponent. The key to Meta Knight is to get right up to your opponent and unleash a series of devestating attacks (aka spam). Meta Knight can be rather slow on his feet, but his Drill Rush can move him across the stage quickly. Meta Knight first appeared in Kirby's Adventure.
Class: Light Weight
Pros:
- Fast Attacks
- Final Smash is Instant KO
- Any Special move is a Recovery Move
Cons:
- Short Range
- Weak Attacks
- No Projectiles
Mr. Game & Watch
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
Mr. Game & Watch comes from a world of bits and bytes...err...actually all of these characters do. Nevertheless, Mr. Game & Watch is old school. Link and him get along pretty well too since neither really knows how to talk. Game & Watch has a wide variety of moves and, like Link, uses various gadgets and gizmos to pull off his attacks. Game & Watch's attacks usually involve some sort of random variable - thus a lot of his attackshave the potential of being extraordinary. He first appeared in Game & Watch.
Class: Light Weight
Pros:
- Powerful Smashes
- Very Hard to Hit
- uses a bucket to stop projectiles and deflect them back
Cons:
- Very Light
- Attacks can be slow
- Hard to tell what he's doing
Ness
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
Some people say Ness copied Lucas, others say Lucas copied Ness. Either way, allt hat matters is both are practically the same character and both have a knack for stripped shirts and baseball bats. Although the two are similar, Ness's attacks vary a little bit. For one his PK Fire is considered to be considerbly weaker in comparison to his blonde friend. That beign said, his PK Thunder is far better than the Fire.
Class: Light Weight
Pros:
- Hard to hit
- Variety of Projectile Attacks
- His bat is really, really scary and really, really powerful
Cons:
- Grab Sucks
- Specials are slow
- His recovery is hard to master
Peach
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
Peach has nothing to dow ith peaches, but everything to do with being kidnapped. That lady needs tog et like birnks or hire better guards. Seriously how does she end up thinknig a bucnh of old people with mushroom hats are gonig to protect her from an army of dinosaurs? What are they gonig to do? Hide in a mushroom forest and then ambush them by popping out and playing Bingo? Regardless of that, Peach has made her way to Brawl to finally show folks that she's not jsut some maiden in distress. Peach is a great floaty character. He giant dress ensures that she'll always fall back to the ground safely (assuming no one combos her while she's in the air). Most of her attacks are pretty weak, but her toad counter can be ridiculously storng and should not be underestimated. Guess them mushroom folks get the last laugh after all...
Class: Medium Weight
Pros:
- Can levitate
- Great recovery
- Can pull up projectiles anywhere
Cons:
- Projectiles can be easily blocked
- Weak attacks
- Short range
Pikachu
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
He may be small, but Pikachu is one of the strongest characters in the game. But alas, which Pkachu si this? is this ASh's Pkachu? is this Henry's? I sthis a random one from the wild? Eitherway you've gotta admit...who ever does the taxonomy in the Pokemon world didn't go to a good vet. school. I mean Pikachu to Raichu? Ekans to Arbok? Sigh. Anyway, as far as Brawl goes, Pikachu is a great character. His ability to "teleport" about the map and hurl lgihting from the sky makes him a tough opponenet. That being said though becoming a skilled Pikachu player takes some practice. Though being a thunder-bolting pikachu takes virtually no skill at all. Pikachu first appeared in Pokemon.
Class: Light Weight
Pros:
- Very Fast
- Hard for opponents to hit
- Lightning Attacks are mighty powerful
Cons:
- Weak aerial attacks
- Physical Attacks have short range
- Overusing Thunder Bolt = No Friends
Pikmin / Olimar
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
Most Brawl players will agree that Olimar is one of the hardest characters to master in the game. Olimar fights with his Pikmin and by using his Pikmin. Olimar throws his Pikmin at enemies. How much damage a Pikmin does depends on the color of the Pikmin as well as how long the Pikmin can hang on. In addition to attacking with his Pikmin, virtually everything Olimar does depends on his Pikmin. For example how far you can recover forma f all depends on how many Pikmin you have. In addition tot his, the Pikmin fall all the time and can be killed easily. All this being said, in the end the cons and pros work with one another to create an all around good character. Enough practice with Olimar should make you a decent fighter.
Class: Light Weight
Pros:
- Fast Attacks
- Unique Fighting Style
- Fast Grab
Cons:
- No Pikmin = Olimar Sucks
- Aerial attacks have short range
- Everything depends on your Pikmin
Pit
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
Pit is newcomer to the Brawl scene that thinks he's cooler than he really is. What's that you can fly Pit? And you have a bow? And it becomes two swords? And you can summon a horde of angels to battle your foes? Ok...so I'll admit: you're kind of cool. Mastering Pit doesn't take much practice, and truth be told he's a pretty easy character to get into. Pit's kind of like Link in that he has a variety of moves at his disposale and can switch between long range and close range combat. However, unlike Link he's no hero of time. One of Pit's biggest advantages is that he can fly. We're not talknig Kirby fly, we're tlaknig fly fly. Pit can stay in the air a long time. As a result this means he can be an annoying foe when you're trying to smash him out. In addition tot his, his flight is extrmely fast. Thus, players playing as Pit can zoom around in the air quicker than a seagull on Red Bull. yet when god gives you lemons he also gives you pears filled with posinous worms. As a result, alothough Pit is incredibly agile, some of his moves kind of suck. Finally, his smashing abilities are below average.
Class: Light Weight
Pros:
- Fast Attacks
- has projectile attacks
- Can fly
Cons:
- Weak Defenses
- Very Weak Attacks and Smashes
- Spamming Angel Ring will probably get you punched in real life
Pokemon Trainer
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
Admitly when I saw Pokemon Trainer I thought the trainer would do the actual fighting. The truth is, however, Pokemon trainer gets his Pokemon to dot he fighting for him. The Pokemon Trainer has Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Charizard at his disposale. The trainer can switch these is out at anytime during the fight. As a result, players get a wide variety of moves at their disposale. think of it like a buy one get two free deal. In fact that's probably how the trainer got these three anyways. He's no trainer...he's a barter. Anyway, I want to say Pokemon trainer first appeared in Pokemon but I'm pretty sure it was actually Oregon Trail.
Class: Light Weight / Medium Weight / Heavy Weight
Pros:
- Can switch characters
- Gets a mixture of all attack types
- Final Smash does decent damage
Cons:
- Switching is in a set pattern
- Using one Pokemon for too long will cause it to be fatigued
- Some palyers may have troubles mastering all three...but hey...you gotta catch them all (oh god)
R.O.B.
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
ROB isn't a game he's a periphal. That being said, he's as real as the game gets. Unfortunately, the real ROB isn't as cool as this one. This one shoots lasers and can fly and has rockets. ROB's attacks are well balanced between long and short range. His standard attack gives him a good long range attack that travels through players, his other B attacks are good at medium range, and his smash attacks do well at short range. ROB first appeared in your grandmother's house.
Class: Medium Weight
Pros:
- Good at all ranges
- Excellent recovery
- Aerial attacks do good damage
- His cutscene is awesome
Cons:
- Easy to hit
- Slow moving
- Robo Beam has to be recharged
Samus
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
The famed female bounty hunter from the revered Metroid series makes her third appearance in the Smash Bros. canon as a good fighter in both the air and on the ground. The bad news? She's been nerfed! Samus is weaker in Brawl than she was in Melee, and her Homing Missile has been replaced with regular, forward-shooting missiles, a huge blow to her offensive capabilities. Nevertheless, all hope is not lost. Samus now has the ability to blow up and fight in her zero-suit space suit. Sure you could say it was for fan service, but the fact is Zero Suit makes Samus a far better character. Zero Suit is extremly fast and features a pluse gun that stuns her opponents.
Class: Heavy Weight / Medium Weight
Samus Pros:
- Multiple, powerful projectiles
- Down Smash is both fast and powerful
- Grab has good range, tether ability
Samus Cons:
- Attacks tend to be on the slow side
- Her quicker moves offer very little knockback
Zero Suit Samus Pros:
- Starts battle with suit pieces ready to throw at opponents
-
- Excellent grab range
- Projectile attack can stun opponents
Zero Suit Samus Cons:
- Missed grab is very laggy, leaves her vulnerable
- Very light, so attacks send her flying farther
- Several attacks don't deal much damage
Snake
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
Snake = awesome. The guy eats bears. Snake is one of the more itneresting characters in Smash. Snake is a slower fighter with some very slow recovery times from some of his special attacks, so you'll need to get used to that if you want to make him your main fighter. He has a lot of powerful projectile attacks that will deal considerable damage if they connect, as well as some hand-to-hand moves that shear off massive chunks of an opponent's health. His Remote Controlled Missile attack is fun to play around with, though it leaves you wide open to attack while the missile is mid-flight.
Class: Medium Weight
Pros:
- Strong Attacks
- Powerful projectile attacks
- Awesome recovery
Cons:
- Slow Movement
- Attacks are slow
- NIKTA Missle can leave you vulnerable
Sonic
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
Sonic is the fastest character in the game. His attacks are incredibly fast and allow for neat combos to pulled off. Consequently his crazy amount of speed results in very weak attacks and smashes. His defenses aren't exactly the greatest thing either...
Class: Light Weight
Pros:
- Extremly Fast
- Fast Attacks
- Fast Rolls
Cons:
- Weak Attacks
- No projectiles
- Lack of variety
Toon Link
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
Toon Link pretty much plays the same as his Young Link counterpart did in Melee, except with a few added features from Wind Waker. For being such a light character he doesn't move particularly fast, and his lack of weight means he's definitely on the floaty side, leaving him open to attacks while in the air. Toon Link is best played as a projectile fighter, and he's got plenty at his disposal, including his bow, bomb, and boomerang attacks. His hand-to-hand combat is no slouch either; it's strong and quick, and his Smash Attacks offer a lot of knockback. Like Samus, if you miss with his grab you'll be a sitting duck for a couple seconds, so make sure that hookshot makes contact if you're going to use it!
Class: Light Weight
Pros:
-
- Fast Attacks
- Good Projectiles
- Downward Stab is Deadly
Cons:
- Vulnerable if grab misses
- Taunts suck
- Easy to KO
Wario
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
Wario, the foul bizarro-world version of Mario, is a heavy character with slow, somewhat strong moves. His attacks don't have a whole lot of range, though when they connect they take a decent chunk of health off an opponent. His aerial game isn't all that hot; his moves are fast but have short range, and his Up + B recovery move is particularly bad. Wario's true strengths come out on the ground. If his Wario Waft is fully charged, it can be devastating to anyone nearby, and his Wario Bike move can mow down a line of unsuspecting opponents.
Class: Heavy Weight
Pros:
- Wario Bike can become a projectile
- Cane at projectiles to recover health
- Strong attacks
Cons:
- Short range
- Slow attacks
- Easy to hit
Wolf
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
Wolf is the archnemesis of Fox. Like Falco anf Fox, Wolf shares similar mvoes as well as piloting liscences. Although similar, Wolf is considered by many to be the strongest of the bunch.
Class: Medium Weight
Pros:
- Fast Strong Attacks
- Has projectile attacks
- Hard to KO
Cons:
- Blaster is slower than Falco or Fox's
- Terrible Recovery
- Easily Comboed
Yoshi
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
Mario's faithful steed, Yoshi returns to Super Smash Bros. with the majority of his moves intact from Melee. For the most part, they also deal the same damage, the two notable exceptions being his Yoshi Bomb and his High Headbutt Smash. He also grabs faster this time around, and you can use his Egg Toss as a slight recovery move.
Class: Medium Weight
Pros:
- Strong Smash
- Great recovery
- Can eat you
Cons:
- Slow Attacks
- Slow Grab
- Slow Roll
Zelda / Sheik
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
Zelda and Shiek have made some small and large changes from their Melee counterparts. Zelda's Din's Fire is fast and stronger, her aerial attacks are, generally weaker (unless they hit the opponent just right, in which case they're stronger), and her speed has picked up a bit. Zelda's sole projectile attack, Din's Fire, is a little hard to master, since you have to hold down the Special Move button and release it to make it useful, but the knockback it offers is worth the trouble. Speaking of knockback, all her Smashes offer huge knockback. Her Standard Special Move, Nayru's Love, deals a good amount of damage if all the hits connect. Conversely, Sheik's moves have generally gone down in the knockback department. She's still one of the very fastest characters in the game, and her attacks can be delivered with very little lag. That said, she's very weak, her Smash Attacks noticebly so. Using Zelda and Sheik is all about your style of playing Brawl, as well as knowing your opponent; if they're fast you may want to use Sheik to keep up with them, but if you prefer larger damage percentages in your attacks, Zelda is clearly the way to go.
Class: Medium Weight
Zelda Pros:
- Can switch to Sheik for a totally different play style
- Very little lag after Smashes
- Has many fast aerial attacks
Zelda Cons:
- Slow on the ground
- Down Aerial A Attack leaves her vulnerable from below
Sheik Pros:
- Fast movement and attacks
- Easy to string combos together
- Can use Chain as a tether recovery move
Sheik Cons:
- Some lag after using Vanish
- Weak attacks and Smash Attacks
